iPhone Pro Max models allegedly stuck at 80 Hz screen refresh rate

Ana sayfa / News

A rumor has been circulating among iPhone users recently: iOS 18 allegedly limits the screen refresh rate of some iPhones to 80 Hz. It is stated that this is especially the case with the iPhone 16 Pro Max model. So much so that this claim spread quickly and started a serious discussion on social media platforms. However, the truth of the matter may not be what it seems.

First of all, the source of these claims is Ice Universe, a reliable leak source. In his posts on Weibo, Ice Universe claimed that the phone’s refresh rate is constantly stuck at 80 Hz. However, there are many tech experts and users who question the accuracy of this claim. Many say that iPhone Pro models go up to 120 Hz and don’t experience any limitations.

In fact, this may be due to Apple’s ProMotion technology. ProMotion is a system that dynamically adjusts the screen refresh rate. When on-screen movement decreases, the refresh rate is automatically lowered, an optimization to extend battery life.

So, in some apps or depending on the screen scrolling speed, it might be normal for the refresh rate to temporarily drop to 80 Hz. This feature has actually been around since it was introduced with the iPhone 13 Pro Max. As a result, claims that “iOS 18 slows down iPhones” may be a bit exaggerated.

Apple’s goal is to optimize the user experience and use the device’s performance more efficiently. But these dynamic changes may have been misunderstood by some users. So, do you think this kind of refresh rate limitation is a good move for battery life, or is it really a problem that negatively affects the user experience? Let us know in the comments section below.
